Author Biography
Bob Kann is a storyteller/juggler/magician, an author of six children's books, and a professor of education. As an entertainer, he has performed throughout the United States since 1982. He also works as a consultant for universities, social service agencies, corporations, and other organizations on topics related to humor, reading, motivation, diversity, creativity, and team building.
A Recipe for Success: Lizzie Kander and Her Cookbook (2006), Kann's first book for the Badger Biographies series, tells how Lizzie Kander taught immigrant Jewish girls how to cook nutritious meals in early 1900s Milwaukee. Her work helped the girls make better lives for themselves and their families. Kann's other books include Belle and Bob La Follette: Partners in Politics (2008), Frank Lloyd Wright and His New American Architecture (2010), and Cordelia Harvey: Civil War Angel (2011).
When he isn't writing, juggling, or consulting, Bob usually can be found reading a book on levitation. He can't put it down.

A Recipe for Success: Lizzie Kander and the Settlement Cookbook
Author and professional storyteller share tales from his book, A Recipe for Success: Lizzie Kander and Her Cookbook, which celebrates the life of Milwaukee's early 20th century culinary wonder. Lizzie Kander's cookbook assisted numerous young Jewish immigrant girls to learn American-style cooking-and the proceeds helped build Milwaukee's first settlement house and later the Jewish Community Center. The Settlement Cookbook became the most successful fundraising cookbook in history and some of the profits were used to build the Jewish Community Center of Milwaukee. Join Bob as he shares stories about Lizzie, her cookbook, and life growing up Jewish in America the late 19th and early 20th century. Participants are encouraged to bring their own Settlement Cookbooks and to share their own stories sparked by the presentation.
