Your mission, should you choose to accept it: abandon nights, weekends, and a low odometer reading; prepare a face to meet a room filled with 200 or 20 or 2 faces; make less than minimum wage (if you’re lucky); promote poetry (not always yours) at every turn. This is the work week of a city or state Poet Laureate. Despite a description that sounds like a feature on “Dirty Jobs,” Wisconsin has been blessed with some of its finest poets volunteering for the cause.
