Author Biography
Wisconsin author Jay Gilbertson spent time working in the hotel industry in Florida and running his own salon in Minnesota before he turned to writing. He had noticed many of his salon clients were successful, happy, single women, but their lives were not reflected in today's books. As Gilbertson explains, he started writing fiction in order to focus on these positive women: "I realized there is very little out there in the way of literature that honors this genre and that began my novel writing." His first book, Moon Over Madeline Island, follows the story of Eve and Ruby, two friends who decide to leave their ordinary lives behind, move up North, and start a business together. In the next book, Back to Madeline Island, Eve and Ruby are enjoying the success of their new lives when Eve decides to contact the daughter she had given up for adoption years before.
Gilbertson now lives with his partner on an organic farm in northern Wisconsin. In addition to working on his writing, he grows much of his own food and runs a pumpkin seed oil business.
Additional Information
Gilbertson will read from his new novel Full Moon Over Madeline Island (due out this spring) as well as share what inspires him to write. From setting to theme to characters to the crazy life of living on a rural farm and missing Thai food…
