Fox Cities Reads
The 2013 Fox Cities Reads is underway! Pick up a copy of Last Child in the Woods and the Nature Priniciple by Richard Louv at your local library and join in community-wide discussions about the book. The author will visit the Fox Cities April 22-24 during the Fox Cities Book Festival.
Author Biography
Kate Thompson has more than twenty years’ experience in book publishing. A Door County native, she gained publishing experience in Minnesota and the East Coast before returning to her home state in 1999. As senior editor for the Wisconsin Historical Society Press, she acquires manuscripts and develops, edits, and promotes books on Wisconsin history and culture. Kate is president of the board of directors of the Wisconsin Center for the Book, a nonprofit Library of Congress affiliate that celebrates Wisconsin literature with programs and events throughout the state.
Representatives of five Wisconsin presses will speak about their missions, philosophies and processes of publishing from selection to final draft. You’ll learn how authors are chosen (or turned down). You’ll discover the press’ obligation to author and the author’s obligation to the press from money to marketing to mailing out books.
This session will be facilitated by Karla Huston. Participants include:
- Judy Bridges, Redbird Studios
- Wendy Vardaman, Cowfeather Press and Verse Wisconsin
- Sarah Busse, Cowfeather Press and Verse Wisconsin
- Lester Smith, Popcorn Press
- Laura Damon-Moore, Parallel Press
- Kate Thompson, Wisconsin Historical Society Press
