Author Biography
Author Trish Kirk is well known for writing children's storybooks that are heartwarming and entertaining, as well as educational. Trish has authored three books revolving around black bears: PeTunia: The Naughty, Pigeon-toed, Boone Hollow Bear, I Think There’s a Bear Out There, and Where’s a Bear’s Fun?
Trish Kirk dedicates her life to promoting kindness and compassion for animals. She is currently an Educational Outreach Coordinator for the North American Bear Center in Ely, Minnesota. Hundreds of classrooms around the world follow the scientific research of the NABC through online Den Cams, videos and daily updates.
The author walks her talk, not just writing about wildlife -- but researching what she writes about. Trish has studied black bears with world reknowned Wildlife Research Institute biologists Dr. Lynn Rogers and Sue Mansfield. As more people move into bear habitat, it's more important than ever to teach young minds the true nature of these gentle, intelligent animals.
After a career in library services at the Appleton Public Library, Trish and her husband retired to the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Trish is a member and former Trustee of the National Organization of Unitarian Universalist Animal Ministry, has volunteered for a rehabilitation and wildlife sanctuary in South Africa, and is a volunteer wildlife and raptor rescuer for Wild Instincts Rehabilitation Center in Rhinelander, Wisconsin.
