Fox Cities Reads
The 2013 Fox Cities Reads is underway! Pick up a copy of Last Child in the Woods and the Nature Priniciple by Richard Louv at your local library and join in community-wide discussions about the book. The author will visit the Fox Cities April 22-24 during the Fox Cities Book Festival.
Biography
The Unpolished Gems is a local writing group of the Fox Valley area; current members are: Alice Claypool, Amy DeBroux, Mary Pribbenow, Betty Smedlund, Jan Elias, Barbara Jo Gauthier, and Don Wydeven. The group meets monthly to encourage writing and to critique each other’s works.
The Gems have been the featured entertainment at the Atlas Coffee Mill and Café biannual Writers’ Dinner Theater, each April and October since 2007. They have also read their original poetry and short stories at other venues, including Nauts Landing in Menasha, and at the Appleton, Kimberly, and Little Chute Public Libraries.
This session will give you the opportunity to hear local writers read their own material, and will also afford you the opportunity to share your poetry or flash fiction. Since time is limited, those wishing to participate in the open mic are requested to limit readings to less than five minutes.
