2013 Book Festival Author
Sara Rath

Wisconsin author Sara Rath's most recent novel, The Waters of Star Lake, is set in a northern Wisconsin resort area near a place called Star Lake and follows the story of Natalie Waters after the death of her domineering husband. A wolf attack on Natalie's dog, the unexpected arrival of her teenage granddaughter, and threats from anti-wolf extremists are some of the events that disrupt Natalie's plans for a quiet summer stay at the family cabin.

The Waters of Star Lake is a sequel to Star Lake Saloon and Housekeeping Cottages, which introduced readers to the small fishing resort area in northern Wisconsin and the quirky characters living there. Quirky characters and unusual circumstances are also featured in her earlier novel Night Sisters, the story of a Madison woman whose visit to a spiritualist camp causes her to channel the spirit of a 1920s actress.

Rath is also the author of numerous nonfiction works, including H.H. Bennett, Photographer: His American Landscape, The Complete Pig, and Dancing with a Cowboy. She grew up in Manawa, Wisconsin, and received her undergraduate degree from UW-Madison and her MFA in Writing from Vermont College. Rath was named a MacDowell Fellow and awarded a Wisconsin Arts Board Individual Artist's Fellowship. She lives near Spring Green, Wisconsin, where she continues to write both fiction and nonfiction.
