Ron Wallace is the author of over twenty books and chapbooks of poetry, fiction, and criticism. For 43 years he directed the creative writing program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he founded the undergraduate English Major with a Creative Writing Emphasis, the Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing (post-MFA fellowships), the graduate MFA program, and the University of Wisconsin Press Poetry Series (Brittingham and Felix Pollak Prizes).
He is the recipient of three distinguished teaching awards, and poetry book prizes from The Council for Wisconsin Writers, the Society of Midland Authors, and the Wisconsin Library Association. In 2005 he was awarded the first George Garrett Prize of the Association of Writers and Writing Programs for his service to writers and writing.
Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, he has been a Wisconsin resident since 1972, dividing his time between Madison and a forty-acre farm in Bear Valley, Wisconsin.
