Our family is proud to be the Honorary Family Chair for the 2012 Fox Cities Book Festival. When we were approached to serve as family ambassadors for the Festival, we were thrilled to play the role. Our family’s love of reading and our belief in the Festival’s role in bonding and enriching our community made taking on this commitment easy for us.

All of us are avid readers, including our 4 children. Joseph is 19 and a freshman at Middlebury College in Vermont where he is relishing magnificent courses in literature. Grace is 17 and a junior at Xavier High School and tries to sneak moments under a blanket for some reading for escape from the rigors of high school life. Bridget is 15 and a sophomore at Xavier and loves to read stories of real people and their adventures and struggles. Last, but not least, is Curren who is 10, in 5th grade at Odyssey Charter School in Appleton and devours books, especially fantasy, inspired by the Harry Potter series.

Reading has always played a critical role in our family. We believe it is a cornerstone of our children’s education as well as a lifelong pastime and means of personal enrichment. It brings the world of reading and its wonders right to our door. The Festival is also an incredible opportunity for the community to deepen its sense of community. We have been blessed by all of the events presented in the Fox Cities that make this a great place to live. However, the Book Festival is unique in the way the conversations it inspires deepen more fully our connections with other community members. Our lives and our entire region is stronger for this.

We hope that everyone participates in the Fox Cities Book Festival in some way in 2012. Your life will be richer for it! Happy reading!
