Kathie Giorgio’s short story collection, Enlarged Hearts, is released only a year after her widely praised novel, The Home For Wayward Clocks.  Kathie will read a selection from her new book and facilitate discussion afterwards.

 This session will give you the opportunity to hear local writers read their own material, and will also afford you the opportunity to share your poetry or flash fiction.  Since time is limited, those wishing to participate in the open mic are requested to limit readings to less than five minutes.

The Unpolished Gems

The Unpolished Gems is a local writing group of the Fox Valley area; current members are: Alice Claypool, Amy DeBroux, Mary Pribbenow, Betty Smedlund, Jan Elias, Barbara Jo Gauthier, and Don Wydeven.  The group meets monthly to encourage writing and to critique each other’s works.

Ted Hertel

Ted Hertel, a lawyer in Milwaukee, has won a number of awards for his short stories, including the Robert L. Fish Award for his story, "My Bonnie Lies . . . " That story was also nominated for an Anthony and a Macavity, major awards in the mystery field. He reviews crime novels, mysteries, and thrillers for Deadly Pleasures and Mystery News.

Kathie Giorgio

The Home for Wayward Clocks (2011) is the first published novel by Wisconsin author Kathie Giorgio. Giorgio's writing is noted for the intense and honest tone she uses to create a world of complexity. She is also known for her short story writing and has had stories published in such journals as Fiction International, Dos Passos Review, Harpur Palate, Ars Medica, and Potomac Review.
