A Storied Wilderness: Rewilding the Apostle Islands?

October 10, 2017 @ 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm CDT

How do we understand the meaning of human history in places we today value as wilderness? Dr. Jim Feldman will explore these questions as he discusses the environmental history and wilderness management at Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. How did a place that was once home to fishermen, farmers, rock miners and lumberjacks become one of the wildest places in the Midwest? What role did human history have in this transformation, and how should we understand this human history in the Apostle Islands and other wild places?
